Personally, I'd like to see the money poured into projects like the ALPHA experiment at CERN used toward more practical and earth-positive innovations like building something that would divert comets or asteroids headed toward earth. As it is the scientific community is overly focused on digging into the Big Bang theory. But if we don't protect earth from natural assaults, then at some time or other none of us will be around to explore anything, lol.

Unfortunately the consensus is that space exploration is indeed a waste of money. People just have to look beyond that money element and understand that most of what we have today are direct results from space explorations.
